Black Mirror: Kristen's Overview (no spoilers)

Season four of Black Mirror was released on Netflix yesterday and I'm ecstatic. If you haven't seen any of this series, I'll give you a quick overview. Black Mirror is a British sci-fi anthology series by Charlie Brooker that analyzes and adds a dark spin on what the future of mankind might look like.

Black Mirror is a unique in that every episode is a completely different story rather than one continuous story throughout the series. So, in retrospect, it doesn't really become essential to watch them all in order.

Although the episodes are different stories, they are all somehow connected. Black Mirror is set in a futuristic world that bluntly shows us what mankind could morph into with a plethora of new technology---along with all the consequences that come with it. The show gives us a glimpse of what our world would look like if technology got the best of us. There is such a thing is knowing too much.

Black Mirror isn't one of those shows that will give you warm fuzzy feelings inside. It delivers a blunt warning about how dependent we've become on technology, and that if we don't change our ways, the consequences could be similar to what is portrayed in the show. Brooker gives an eerie explanation on his inspiration for the
name of the series:

"If technology is a drug – and it does feel like a drug – then what, precisely, are the side effects? This area – between delight and discomfort – is where Black Mirror, my new drama series, is set. The 'black mirror' of the title is the one you'll find on every wall, on every desk, in the palm of every hand: the cold, shiny screen of a TV, a monitor, a smartphone."

Creepy right? But also all too familiar......have you thought about how much technology plays a role in your life? Give Black Mirror a watch and prepare to mentally take a step back, but also to be thoroughly entertained.

The Faceswap that can’t be unseen

(Disclaimer. Kristen is new to blogging and couldn't figure out how to post so I'm opening her draft myself and publishing this. She better learn or else I'm taking her off of the author list and changing the blog's name)

Allow me to situate you, dear reader. The night was 4/17/17... I think, shit, I can't remember. Taylor and I were bar hopping literally ALL over Houston. Well, actually, it wasn't all over, it was just Downtown and we had made our way to Upper Kirby area at Kirby Ice House. It was kinda raining and we were fucked up. We decided to do a faceswap... it didn't really work out the way we wanted... but it did produce something so beautiful that I have to share with you, dear reader, so you have an idea of what we look like.

Feast your eyes on this bullshit now

Me*: Left
Taylor*: Right

Also, I really want Taylor to watch Godless so we can talk about it, see:

Oh, by the way, that rain that I mentioned above turned into a horrible flood in Houston the next day and people, as in me, were stranded in awful places, and literally highways and homes were under water.
